We discovered a wonderful posting by INC Magazine that we believe is worth sharing. The article, “7 Life Skills Parents Should Teach Their Kids That Will Pay Off Forever (No Matter What Path They Choose to Take),” is excellent and identifies some skills that are normally not found in the mainstream parent advice articles.  Moreover, parenting tips are typically not found in a business journal. These make sense, however, for not just parents to teach their children, but also for a self-assessment as an adult. Ask yourself, “Am I demonstrating these life skills in my day-to-day routine?”

Author Jeff Haden asks what are the actual skills that kids will need to be successful in life and which ones will pay the greatest dividends regardless of what may be their pursuit?  Here are the life-skills which Mr. Haden encourages parents to help their kids learn:

  • How to sell
  • How to ask for help
  • How to manage time
  • How to use/manage work-life balance
  • How to be emotionally intelligent
  • How to see pressure as a privilege
  • How to not only be smart … but also, wise

Mr. Haden draws his suggested skills from noteworthy business folks, Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, and Warren Buffett.  His explanations are on point and are guidelines to not only teach children, but to also lead by example.

During this difficult time, we are here for you, as we always have been, to help consider safe, educational and therapeutic opportunities for your adolescent/young adult.
